Crewe Hair and Skin Clinic

About the Clinic Director

Dr Wilson set up the clinic after 20 years of being an NHS General Practitioner. Also being dually qualified as a Consultant in Public Health Medicine  with a variety of NHS experience she developed a passion for helping people with hair loss , recognising that the majority of General Practitioners received only a few days of training on skin and hair diseases.

Keen to learn more about hair disorders in particular, she completed the 2 year Trichology Course with the Institute of Trichologists gaining a distinction in both years, being the only student in her cohort to do so. She was also awarded the John Mason Memorial Prize for Excellence in her first year, which is only awarded when there is a ‘candidate of high enough calibre to merit it’. She has taught examined and consulted at the Institute of Trichologists’ Clinic in London and also gained further experience helping patients with hair loss independently. She is an Affiliate Trichologist Member of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons and a Medical Member of The Trichological Society. She is one a few members of the British Hair and Nail Society who is not a dermatologist. She is also a member of the Primary Care Dermatology Society which has recently widened its membership to include  providing education on dermatology to members of the Primary Health Care in addition to General Practitioners.

Dr Wilson has lectured on a variety of audiences on hair including on Trichology from a General Practitioner’s Perspective (Institute of Trichologists), Hair Loss in Afro-textured hair (Hairology Conference), Hair and Nutrition (Nylah – Untangled) and Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (The Trichological Society). She has written regularly for the British Hair and Nail Society Newsletter (including on CCCA and hair washing frequency in Afro-textured hair), and worked with Fragrance Direct on publishing recommendations on which hair products to use in hard or soft water areas according to hair type, which was published in the Daily Mail online.

She believes that it is important to be knowledgeable about the hair processing techniques in Afro-textured hair, so obtained certification in Hair Cutting, Hair Braiding and Weave, Afro hair relaxer and the Brazilian Blow Dry from the National Beauty Institute in 2015. Keen to be able to provide a wider range of beauty services, she has also trained in individual  Eye Lash Extensions  with Lash Perfect which complements the medical and cosmetic advice she is able to give.

It is important to be able to provide practical solutions to hair loss concerns, so Dr Wilson has become an MS Hair Ambassador and is able to supply wigs from TrendCo having completed training for the Ready to Wear Wig Collection.

Dr Wilson has been providing skin camouflage since 2012, having qualified as a skin camouflage practitioner with the British Association of Skin Camouflage and has contributed to the June 2019 edition of their Cover Magazine by writing an article on hair transplantation. She believes that it is important to be able to be aware of a wide range of paramedical procedures such as electrolysis for hair and blemish removal which is provided in the clinic.  Having the BTEC Level 7 award for Laser and Associated light therapies, she hopes to be able to offer this service in the future.

Dr Wilson is a qualified electrologist and is able to offer permanent hair removal with electrolysis. She has also trained in advanced cosmetic procedures and is able to offer skin tag removal, thread vein removal and other blemish removal using electrolysis.
