When should I think about a hair replacement system?
If you have early to moderate hair loss, there are alternative treatments for male hair loss which have a more gradual transformation to improve the appearance and density of your own hair. This can involve oral and topical medications, and injectable treatments at the clinic.
For advanced hair loss a hair replacement system (also known as a Toupee) is a practical solution for hiding hair loss. This clinic does not fit the hair pieces and therefore recommends Real Couture next door for the actual fitting and cutting of the piece.
Choosing a hair piece is a very personal experience, so the environment at this clinic allows more privacy to discuss choices. It can take several months for a some hair pieces to arrive.
The hair piece can be attached using tape, clips or glue.
The hair replacement system can be left on for a week or a month at a time using tape.
The piece can take some hours to dry, so it is recommended that you buy 2 hair pieces initially.
Please note that once purchased, the hair piece cannot be returned. You are therefore advised to make sure that you ask all necessary questions particularly about how to take care of the piece.
The life of a hair replacement system is generally much shorter than people expect.
What should I expect from a hair replacement system consultation?
A hair replacement system consultation is recommended to understand the issues involved and to get a colour match. Before the consultation it would be helpful if you could send a photo of the top of your head to info@crewehairandskinclinic.uk
The availability of the colour for each system will vary, and there are currently supply chain issues internationally with real hair for wigs so the clinic will help you to find the best match available.
A small range of hair pieces is available at the clinic. If your preferred colour and style is not available, then the next stage is to choose 4 pieces and then these can be tried at the clinic at a later date. The price of the consultation includes:
– Initial consultation where a colour match and preferred style and hair type is identified
-Postage for sending off for additional styles if your preferred style is not in stock
– Further time to make the final choice. This appointment must be attended within 14 days of the first appointment. You will automatically be sent a booking link after the first appointment.

A wide range of colours are available as seen on the colours below.
A colour ring is also available to compare your own hair colour. Grey hair can be added in.
How can I fit the hair piece?
During this time of social distancing, customers are encouraged to fit the hair piece themselves. The clinic can support them in doing this virtually and if required can supply the details of local wig cutters.
This YouTube Link demonstrates how the hair piece can be fitted at home using tape. (225) How To Apply Your Men’s Hair System At Home During Lockdown – YouTube
Can I get a bespoke wig made?
Yes, if you do not see a hair piece you wish to buy that is ready made.
It is possible to choose the density, curl, parting, internal construction.
The Aero Lace and Mono range do not extend into the curlier hair types, but a bespoke wig can be an acceptable option for those with this hair types within a similar appearance to a ‘man weave’
Cyber mould - a precise cast of the scalp
A formal mould can be taken using the Cyber mould technique at the clinic which gives a far more accurate representation than the traditionally used clingfilm and sellotape mould. The Cyber mould can be used repeatedly for future hair replacement systems, but should be taken during daylight hours to optimise visibility.
The overall cost of a bespoke hair piece can vary but can be from £450 . It can take around a week to get an estimate from Trendco Headquarters in Brighton.
If you wish to keep the hairpiece on all the time, to avoid friction frizz, human hair rather than synthetic hair will extend the life of the hair piece which is generally around 3- 6-months. The piece can last longer if cared for appropriately. If you are satisfied it is recommended that you purchase a second hair piece to minimise the down time, as a piece can take around 5 weeks to be made.
A patch test is required 24-48 hours before the day of the fitting if glue is going to be used rather than tape.
Are there alternatives to Human and Synthetic Hair?
Cyber Hair and Vital Hair are alternatives.
The advantages of these 2 hair types are that they:
- Have the appearance of human hair.
- Lightweight
- Colour stable
- Heat resistant
- Absorbs water but dries quickly
- Can be made to a style of your choice
- Comes with a guarantee if aftercare instructions are followed
Disadvantages
- Has to be custom made, therefore the time to get the piece can be many months.
- The length is limited
- Cyber Hair’s style cannot be changed
- The aftercare is much more intense and there are multiple steps. It is recommended that you buy the aftercare kit AFTERCARE STARTER KIT FLEXI/VHAIR/CYBER HAIR – Aderans UK
