During 2021 a number of treatments for hair loss have been introduced to the clinic.
Skingenuity hair restoration is one which uses human recombinant growth factors to help with hair growth. This means that the parent growth factor was human, but was then manufactured using a non-human source, in the same way that vaccines are made.
What is then delivered in the serums and solutions is a fixed dose of Growth Factors that are specific for a specific condition.
6 treatments are administered in the clinic every 2 weeks alongside a home kit which includes regular use of a botanical solution. There is published data on the botanical solution and the individual components. The company is expecting to publish the results of a trial of the specific kit soon.
To date no side effects have been reported. The only potential side effects are short term redness due to the needling but this is transient. The only contraindications are those that have an allergy to the ingredients which is basically hyaluronic acid and water. It will work best on those that haven’t lost a lot of hair.
It is not a stem cell product, but a Growth factor product. The difference is important as stem cells are regulated as a drugs and would need MHRA approval and the Growth Factors are regulated as cosmetics. The SkinGenuity range is approved on the European cosmetic portal.
