Why have a Fagron TrichoTest at this clinic?
Fagron TrichoTest is a DNA test which helps to recommend topical medical treatments and supplements based on your genetic profile. It is important to know that it does not diagnose the cause of hair loss.
There are often many different factors contributing to hair loss including nutrition, general health, medications and nutrition. There are several clinics in the UK offering this test, but this is the only clinic in the UK that has a medical doctor with a background in Trichology, General Practice and Public Health Medicine who is able to prescribe the treatments and provide follow up.
Prescribing linked to the TrichoTest can take place following a face to face diagnostic hair loss consultation.
The cost of the TrichoTest includes a support call to take the test if done remotely, plus 2 follow up appointments which usually take place remotely.
What is TrichoTest?
Fagron TrichoTest is the most complete genetic test for hair loss. It supports health care professionals in personalising treatment for hair loss. It combines the analysis of genetic variations, lifestyle factors and literature related to hair loss treatment. It suggests individualised treatment options through topical or oral solutions. The recommendations are based on population studies analysing a total of 48 genetic variations.
It is intended for use in 3 major hair loss conditions: androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium and early alopecia areata.
Which hair loss medications does the test look at?
The genetic test uses an automated qualitative pharmacogenetic algorithm that analyses your genetic data and combines this information with relevant patient history from a questionnaire you complete to recommend the most suitable active ingredients. This is shown as a colour scale which shows which compounds the algorithm recommends the most.
The transition from white to dark green indicates drugs from least recommended to most recommended.
Medications blocked due to intolerances or contraindications are shown in red.
What about supplements?
It can be tempting to over-supplement when experiencing hair loss.
The TrichoTest can be helpful in providing direction on ‘smart supplementing’ in conjunction with a detailed history and blood tests where necessary
What sort of medication recommendations could be made
The report will come up with a recommendation for a topical medication.
Some of these medications will be off license for hair loss. Some of the recommendations may not be suitable based on the information obtained from the diagnostic hair loss consultation, so there will be a process of discussion after the test to help you to decide whether to go forward with this or consider an alternative.
Which supplements will be recommended?
The report will come up with a recommendation for supplements.
These are generally not compounded.
How will my data be handled?
Fagron Genomics, the company behind TrichoTest is fully committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of patients using its genetic tests.
All personal information is stored and processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations. Reasons to use this clinic for TrichoTest
TrichoTest is available at many different locations across the UK. However this clinic believes that the person prescribing the medications and making the recommendations should be carrying out the consultation, assessment and follow up.
The report is long and detailed and often requires time to explain the implications of the recommendations. With the remote TrichoTest only option (1st button above) a follow up appointment is included to discuss the results and to talk you through the treatment options which the test covers (topical medications and supplements).
TrichoTest does not diagnose the reason for the hair loss, so if you have any doubts about this it is recommended that you make use of the remote TrichoTest and hair loss consultation service (2nd button above) which will also look at alternative or additional possible reasons for hair loss. You will also be advised of the alternative options for treating your hair loss, including medical approaches, lifestyle or aesthetic approaches.
This clinic also one of a few in the country to offer the facility to have detailed high magnification analytical reports of the hair TrichoLab which includes the option of a second opinion with internationally recognised doctors specialising in non-surgical hair restoration. (3rd button above which includes the consultation, follow up service and TrichoTest)
