What is Belotero Revive?

BELOTERO® Revive, is a new injectable skin revitaliser, indicated for the treatment of early-onset photodamaged facial skin.

BELOTERO® Revive utilises BELOTERO®’s patented CPM® technology for homogeneous dermal integration with the addition of 17.5mg/ml of glycerol, known for its highly hydrophilic properties.

Designed to be injected at multiple levels in the skin, BELOTERO® Revive treats the early signs of sun damage by rehydrating the skin, improving elasticity and firmness, and smoothing superficial fine lines by reducing skin roughness. It works beneath the skin’s surface to provide hydration but can also be used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, or as a preventative and early aesthetic intervention treatment to slow the progression of facial changes over time.

It is basically an injectable resorbable implant indicated to fill depressions due to facial atrophic scars and to treat photo-damaged skin. This medical device can be used to improve the elasticity and firmness of ageing skin of the face. It is also suitable for filling fine and superficial facial lines.

How often is the treatment?

The treatment  involves 3 sessions 4 weeks apart

What is the evidence of it working?

Belotero® Revive has been clinically assessed in a study involving 24 patients called the BELOVE study. Belotero® Revive was injected into the lower cheek area of the face the treatment options have been tested in an observation period of over 36 weeks.

The results of the BELOVE Study

Belotero® Revive improved skin elasticity, has an excellent safety profile, and a generally lower level of injection site pain

  • Up to 36 weeks improved skin hydration and reduced skin redness
  • 100% of patients showed improved aesthetic results at week 12
  • Over 80% of patients were satisfied with the treatment at week 24
  • 90% of patients would recommend Belotero® Revive to friends

Who shouldn't have it?

It is contraindicated if

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Hypersensitive to one of the product’s components, especially the sodium hyaluronate or glycerol
  • Under the age of 18
  • If having a general infection
  • If there is a local infection or inflammation
  • History of streptococcal skin disease
  • predisposed to hypertrophic scars or keloids

Belotero Revive must not be used  in association with other aesthetic procedures such as peeling or dermabrasion before complete healing of the last treatment. In any case Belotero Revive should not be used earlier than 2 weeks after the last treatment.

Injection into an area where there is already another filling product should be avoided

What are the side effects?

Injection site reactions may occur following  injection into the skin but disappear spontaneously within a few days. This includes swelling, nodule or lump/bump, bruising, induration, erythema or redness, pain, discolouration or pruritus (itching).  These injection site reactions are generally of a mild or moderate intensity. A transient bleeding may also occur at the injectionsite and usually stops spontaneously as soon as the injection is finished.

Adverse events: In occasionaly case, one or more of the following may occur either immediately or as a delayed reaction: inflammation, pruritus, haemaoma, oedema, swelling , hyper or hypo-pigmentation, induration, lump/bump or nodule. Literature reported rare case of the follwing adverse events with HA products such as infection and abscess, scarring hypersentivity or allergy to one of the product’s components (e.g. hyaluronic acid, glycerol) granuloma, ischaemia or necrosis. Risk is higher with deep injections and high volumes. Isolated cases of visual impairment following unintentional intra-arterial injection have been reported in the literature. These cases are extremely unlikely to occur especially with dermal injection of a gel of low viscosity.

How is it different to Profhilo?

Both products are skin revitalizers, which are are used for skin quality improvement purposes.

Profhilo® is Hyaluronan hybrid cooperative complexes (HCC). This is  an anti-aging treatment with a large amount of pure hyaluronic acid (HA) based on stable, cooperative, and hybrid complexes.

Belotero Revive® is Cohesive polydensified matrix Hyaluronic Acid (CPM-HA20). It  is a slightly cross-linked HA (20 mg/ml) with glycerol (17.5 mg/ml).

Both products help with hydration, elasticity, transepidermal water loss and melanin.

There is significant evidence that Belotero Revive helps with water content. Profhilo is good for pores and redness.

Both treatments are effective and safe for skin quality improvement with high patient satisfaction and mild and transient side effects.

As with all aesthetic treatments, good results are supported with good daily skincare.

Can it be combined with Dermalux light treatment?

Dermalux LED light therapy can be combined with this treatment immediately afterwards as part of a combined treatment to speed up healing and for general skin rejuvenation.
