Why consider microneedling for hair growth?
Microneedling (MN) is a minimally invasive procedure involving the creation of controlled wounds in the skin with medical-grade needles.
A systematic review of the treatment for hair loss published in 2021 concluded that an adjunct therapy, microneedling improved hair
parameters across genders and a range of hair loss types, severities, needling devices, needling depths of 0.50–2.50 mm, and session frequencies from once weekly to monthly. Across 17 investigations totalling 911 androgenetic alopecia (AGA) subjects, microneedling improved hair parameters when paired with 5% minoxidil, growth factor solutions, and/or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) topicals, or when introduced to subjects whose hair count changes had plateaued for 6 months on other treatments. However, the quality of the data could be better and larger trials are needed.

What is special about the Xcellaris ProTwist device?
The experience of microneedling the scalp for hair loss can be painful at deeper depths. The Xcellaris ProTwist microneedling device is now an alternative to the Dermaroller as an in-clinic treatment for hair loss. It is an option to consider when other treatments haven’t worked, when looking to reduce hair shedding. There is evidence of use in male or female pattern hair loss, hair shedding and mild alopecia areata. This device is able to make 150 insertions per second. There is precise needle penetration and the depth of the needle can be adjusted. Medical grade stainless steel needles are used which are manufactured to perfection through several consecutive manufacturing stages to ensure 360 degree symmetry. The design enables precise work with adjustable penetration depth from 0.25mm to 2.5mm.
Potential benefits

What is the recommended treatment regime?
The clinic treatment involves superior microneedling with the Dermaroller XCellaris Pro twist using a needle depth of between 0.5mm and 1.5mm. There will be pinpoint bleeding. 2-4 treatments are recommended every 4 weeks.
If you have other cosmetic skin concerns that could potentially be treated, please let the clinic know and you will be sent a link for a remote aesthetics/skin care follow up consultation. Other cosmetic concerns that could be treated at the same session include: acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, injury scars (not keloid or hypertrophic scars), dry skin, ageing, large pores and deep lines and wrinkles. There will be an additional charge for extra areas treated.
