What is the clinic treatment?
The Hair Recovery Programme SP55 is a cosmetic topical solution designed for people suffereing hair loss that works from the outside, to support the stem cells in the hair follicle. It hleps to reduce the inflammation of the hair follicle and provide a better supply of key ingredients for healthy hair growth.
It is administered with a 0.5mm microneedling device at the clinic on clean dry hair. The device is rolled with gentle pressure to allow the solution to enter the scalp. The solution is massaged into the scalp. After 5 minutes the procedure is repeated. This is followed by red light for 15 minutes.
6 treatments need to be done every 10 days (or as close to 10 days as possible)
As with all hair loss treatments, results are anticipated but not guaranteed.
What should be done after the treatment?
Direct sunlight should be avoided for 8 hours after every session.
The hair should not be shampoo’d after the session.
After treatment spray with Hermetic Lotion. Apply lotion at night while standing in front of a mirror.
Shake the lotion before starting.
Make sure the hair is dry. Spray as closely as possible to the desired area and massage and leave on overnight.

What's the difference between the clinic treatment and the home treatment?

Microneedling on its own can be uncomfortable, so there is the option of local anaesthetic if the first treatment is too uncomfortable. The local anaesthetic generally takes about 20 minutes to work

What are the potential adverse effects or risks?
Side effects related to the cosmetic solution have not been reported to the manufacturers. The potential adverse effects related to using a microneedling device are as follows:
- Following the use of the microneedling device that the skin will be red, resembling moderate sunburn, as the skin naturally heals the redness will resolve. The skin may remain red for three or four days after the Dermaroller treatment, although it is usual for it to subside within two days and many people are able to return to their normal activities the same or next day.
- It is recommended that the use of soaps, shampoos, hair fibres on the scalp on the treated skin area is restricted for at least 24 hours or until the redness subsides and where possible warm/tepid water and/or gentle cleansers are used for cleansing.
- There is a small risk of infection of the treated skin area after the microneedling procedure although this is not expected to occur due to the sterility of the microneedling medical device and the fact that the epidermis of the skin is not removed because of the procedure.
- The microneedling procedure can cause areas of bruising although this would not normally be expected to occur. Any bruising will be temporary.
- There is a small risk that hyper-pigmentation of the skin can occur after the procedure,
- Although this is not normally expected as the epidermis of the skin is not removed as a result of the procedure. Failure to avoid sun exposure and engage in sun protection can increase this risk.
